An angel food cake mix is the quick first step toward popular state fair fare: sweet, crisp funnel cakes!

  1. Blend cake mix and flour in large mixing bowl; whisk in water and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Transfer into pitcher and pour 1/3 cup batter (into 8-inch circular outline and randomly inside creating a web design) into deep fat fryer preheated to 375°F.
  3. Fry 60-90 seconds per side until lightly browned; remove from oil and drain excess oil from cakes.
  4. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve immediately.

  • Thin batter with water as needed so it is easy to pour.
